Sapir's photographs will be displayed from May 5 through July 30, and can be seen during regular hours on the library's second floor at 668 Route 6 in Mahopac.
A long-time Putnam Valley resident in the Mahopac School District, Sapir has explored the outdoors in 48 states and several other countries through his job as both writer and editor for several prominent outdoor publications, as well as his 27 years as outdoors correspondent for The Journal News.
Sapir has digitally captured the bird images on display in the last five years. They include waterfowl, shore and wading birds, raptors and songbirds.
A sequence of three photographs reveals the remarkably rapid development of hatchlings during a one-week period.
“I have hundreds of photographs of birds in my files, and I decided I would like to share a couple-dozen of my favorites with the local community and other bird lovers” Sapir said. “I think they will enjoy viewing the mix of bird species and locales in which they were photographed. Each one of the images certainly reminds me of the moment when I captured it with my camera.”
Mahopac Library is open Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. (The library is closed on Sundays from July 1 through Labor Day.)
Prints of all photographs on display will be available for sale.
